James Hutton

James is skilful at working with leaders and managers who are considered high potential, partnering with them on career progression and through periods of transition to enable high performance. James works with clients from major corporates and start-ups through to the charity and not for profit sector.

His coaching philosophy is based firmly in his belief in people and their ability to achieve their potential. Enabling this through an informal yet challenging approach, allowing clients the space to explore from multiple perspectives, bringing insight and support to deliver change. He is perceptive with an informal approach to coaching, operating in an open and non-judgemental way that focuses very much on supporting an individual to un-lock potential barriers and find solutions, inspiring them to take action.

JAMES’ CAREER INCLUDES WORKING WITHIN MEDIA, RETAIL AND LEISURE SECTORS IN SENIOR TALENT, DEVELOPMENT AND HR ROLES.

James has also worked as a consultant, designing and delivering a range of development interventions for corporate businesses across a variety of sectors. In his most recent role James was Head of Talent and Development for News UK (The Sun, The Times and The Sunday Times) his responsibilities included the talent strategy and leadership development. He also introduced internal coaching capability to News UK in 2012.

The internal coaching programme trained over 40 coaches and was featured in Coaching at Work magazine in March 2014. James has spoken at a number of conferences about internal coaching, including the CIPD conference in 2014 and Coaching at Work conference in 2016. Sharing his passion about coaching as an enabler to personal and organisational development.

In 2016 James completed a Masters level post-graduate certificate in Coaching from the University of Sussex and Roffey Park. His formal coaching education began in 2008, completing an accredited coaching programme with the Executive Coaching Consultancy. He is accredited by the European Mentoring and Coaching Council at Senior Practitioner level and receives regular supervision. James is also a licensed NLP Practitioner and is qualified to use a wide range of psychometric tools including Hogans, MBTI, 16PF and Quintax.
