Richard Bentley

Richard works with leaders to be at their best in terms of the impact they have with their people, their clients/customers, their key stakeholders and in the market, and to overcome any obstacles in the way of achieving their aspirations.

Known for his pragmatic, flexible, yet sometimes challenging coaching approach Richard aligns with Daniel Goleman's observation in Focus - The Hidden Driver of Excellence that now, more than ever, we must learn to sharpen focus if we are to contend with, let alone thrive in, a complex world. He works with each leader to determine what their priority areas of focus are and what needs to be happening in each, whether it's about developing inner capabilities or mindset, enhancing relationships with others, or deepening awareness of sector dynamics.

Having worked with the Neuroleadership Institute for nearly a decade, Richard's clients may sometimes explore how to change limiting patterns of thinking and how practically to build resilience during stressful periods. Richard is a future-focused coach and, therefore, encourages leaders to gain clarity around personal and organisational vision to ease short and medium-term decision making.

In addition, Richard sees coaching as a collaboration and is willing to share his own observations and insights drawn from over 15 years of coaching leaders across the professional services, insurance, banking, defence, charities, manufacturing and retail sectors.  His coaching often focuses on creating followership, managing ones 'personal brand', raising team performance, managing challenging stakeholder relationships, managing stress, clarifying crucial decisions, and sustaining both personal and team motivation.

Richard's client experience has included Deloitte, KPMG, UBS, Intact Insurance, Allianz, Oxfam, Screwfix, Royal Navy, BAE Systems and John Deere.

Richard trained for and became a coach in 2000 after a career in corporate communications, which included setting up and running his own business. He is an accredited EMCC Senior Practitioner, has a post-graduate Certificate in Coaching from Warwick University, and holds Hogan Assessment Certification and as a Marshal Goldsmith Stakeholder Centered Coach. For six years, with another coach, he led the Neuroleadership Institute's programmes in the UK.

“Richard is an excellent coach and facilitator, particularly adept at dealing with the idiosyncrasies and temperaments of senior leaders. He has a simple and pragmatic style, well-versed in the theory and practice of leadership and coaching, delivered in a results-focused manner. In a world which attracts charlatans and evangelists alike, Richard exemplifies the practical application of a powerful and potentially life-changing approach to personal and professional development.”
