Dr Liz Barnes
Liz is an experienced coach, facilitator and coaching supervisor who has enjoyed being an i-coach associate faculty member since 2004. She is practical and pragmatic and brings a breadth and depth of skills, knowledge and experience of business and leadership development, with an ability to provide challenge and insight required for supporting the development of leaders and the delivery of business outcomes.
Her clients are typically individuals or teams who need to achieve one or more of the following goals; succeed in a new or hi-potential leadership role or stretch assignment, build and sustain resilient personal leadership and business performance, clarify and drive for future life and career direction, enhance adaptability and capability as a leader, develop in specific areas based on feedback or personal challenges, act on or develop areas of personal performance and development, achieve higher levels of teamwork, revive and re-energise teams in times of change.
Liz’s approach acknowledges that through the development of ‘personal leadership’, clients can more confidently and congruently execute new personal strategies, enjoy ownership for results, foster deeper relationships and plan their longer term career and business horizons. Being coached by Liz will involve conversations to deepen understanding of own worldview and aspirations alongside the business and personal challenges currently faced. Coaching offers a chance to step out of the day-to-day role or ‘business as usual’ and reflect deeply and honestly on what is trying to be achieved now and in the longer term. It gives an opportunity to systematically think through the challenges faced and focus on the real priorities. She will ask tough questions to build self-awareness and strengthen and inspire resolve. She will challenge to go further and help plan and make the changes needed to achieve aspirations or goals.
Liz has worked within the private and public sectors, independently and most recently in Talent, Learning and Development of a global FTSE 100 organisation to support the development of individuals at all levels and stages of their careers. Her own career began as a postdoctoral scientist with a background in Neuroscience, followed by 17 years at Unilever Plc where her main role was to lead science-based R&D projects and teams. She made several self-managed career transitions within Unilever completing professional HR qualifications and began accredited coach training. She then joined Cranfield University as a learning and development consultant where she led strategic projects leading to the design and delivery of various leadership and management programmes as well as bespoke team development events and individual coaching.
Liz has a Postgraduate Certificate and Masters in Coaching (i-coach academy/Middlesex University), a Postgraduate Certificate in Coaching and Mentoring Supervision (Oxford Brookes University) and a Diploma in Systemic Team Coaching. She is Chartered Fellow of CIPD, a master NLP practitioner, BPS Level A and B, Myers Briggs, Firo-B, Power + Systems, and Hogan accredited. She is also a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
TESTIMONIALS
“Challenging, encouraging, supportive and safe; using an array of tools and techniques to get me to find my own answers. Confidential and caring. Liz is an excellent coach and mentor”JF, SENIOR LEADER, FTSE 100 CO
“After starting a new role (new for both me and the company), I sought coaching from Liz. The coaching took me out of my busy schedule and helped think about aspects of my role and my development that I would not normally have considered. At first, this helped me with gaining confidence in the new role and understanding perceptions. Later, the coaching was valuable in helping with difficult situations and building a cohesive team”CS, SENIOR LEADER, FTSE100
